Course info
The life and career of Sir Christopher Wren encompassed one of the most eventful centuries in British history; it included a Civil War, the trial and execution of a king, a Republic, plague and fire in London, two changes of dynasty and interminable wars with the Dutch and the French. The period also witnessed the founding of the Royal Society and pioneering work in many fields of science and technology; work in which Wren often played a leading role. This course will be taught jointly by an architect and an historian, using Wren's achievements as a touchstone we will explore developments in architecture, science and society between 1620 and 1720. It is hoped that part of the course will include visits to examples of Wren's architecture in Cambridge at Pembroke College, Emmanuel College and Trinity College.
How much will it cost?
Resident fee: £214. Non-resident fee: £133.
