Course info
This course is suitable for students who are interested in art & design. This course will develop creative skills through the exploration of materials techniques, ideas, concepts and working approaches to the subject. Students will explore a broad range of art and design disciplines and have the opportunity to specialise in one of the following, in the second year: fine art, textiles, graphic design, interior and exhibition design, ceramics, painting and sculpture. The focus on the development of drawing skills is supported by history of art and computer applications. Students will also follow other subject related qualifications with this course.
How much will it cost?
If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there may be a tuition fee (depends on the course) and you will have to pay a registration fee (which includes exam fees). There is an annual resource fee of £52, and students will be required to purchase a recommended starter art kit costing approximately £100. Visits are arranged to various exhibitions, as part of the course, which individually cost, a maximum of £15. An optional residential study trip is also planned. Students will also be asked to purchase additional necessary items such as a portfolio, specialist art materials as required.
Assessment method
The work on the course is project/assignment based, and assessment is continuous throughout the course. Some units will be subject to external assessment. Each unit will be assessed and awarded with a final grade of pass, merit or distinction. The course is completed with a final major project and an exhibition.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs grades C and above, including English and either Art or Design Technology. Alternatively, successful completion of a BTEC First Diploma in Art and Design, at Merit grade, is also acceptable.
